A Break In The Rain

February 23, 2017

I love the fog; I love the rain. But it sure was nice on Thursday to ditch my rain gear for a change.

Millie and I started at the northern end of the bridge, at Horseshoe .Cove, home to a Coast Guard station, a small marina and fishing piers.

The water around these boats was barely visible under debris swept in by the succession of storms. From the marina our route ascended into the headlands.

Above, downtown San Francisco … below left, the highway entering the rainbow tunnel (now named for Robin Williams) … and below right, Angel Island.

Our ascent continued on a fire road, through a eucalyptus wood.

We emerged from the woods into a meadow greened up by the rains, dotted with early wildflowers. The pink ones at the right are a rare species of Clarkia, found only in the Presidio and the Marin Headlands.

Thence down, down, down, back to the waterfront.
